Key Features and Functionality
- Functionality: The device acts as a compact switch or repeater, taking one PoE input (both power and data) and distributing it to two PoE output ports for your cameras. This is ideal for adding a second camera in a location where running an additional cable would be difficult or costly.
- Distance Extension: In addition to splitting the connection, it also functions as an extender (repeater), boosting the signal to allow for an additional 100 meters (328 ft) of cable run from the extender to the cameras (on top of the 100m from the source to the extender).
- Power & Data Standards: These devices typically comply with IEEE 802.3af (max 15.4W output) or IEEE 802.3at (max 30W input, approx 25W output for one or two devices, depending on individual camera power consumption) standards. You must ensure your cameras’ power requirements are within the extender’s output budget.
- Compatibility: They are designed for use with PoE-enabled devices like IP cameras, but typically need to be used with a standard PoE switch or injector as the power source, not usually a PoE NVR port directly, as some NVR ports only support one camera feed per port.
- Installation: Most are “plug-and-play” with no extra configuration needed and are available in both indoor and outdoor/waterproof designs (IP66 rated).
